2007-08-01 World’s largest thermometer
In Wiżajny in Suwałki region, where the lowest temperatures in Poland are recorded, has been conceived an idea to create a unique tourist attraction - WORLD'S LARGEST THERMOMETER. Apart from the gigantic indicator the town would also host MUSEUM OF THERMOMETERS. KAPILAR will probably become the maker of this device, which has a chance to enter BOOK OF RECORDS.
World's largest thermometer to date can be found in Baker, California (population 500), in the heart of East Mojave Desert. Conceived by the local businessman Will Herron this structure raises to 134 feet (40.8 m) symbolic of the record high temperature in the US, in Death Valley -- 134 degrees Fahrenheit in 1913. This attraction sports almost 5000 light bulbs, arranged to mimic mercury scale and lighting up to indicate current temperature. (source: www.archersdirect.co.uk).
